SPINNING & CARDING We offer Spinning and Carding classes. Go back to the basics and learn how to make your own yarn.
Starting June, we will host two spinning nights. We are going to open from 5-8 pm on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Included will be felting classes and demonstrations. You can pick your mix of fiber and card it yourself. Basic spinning lessons will be available. There will also be a few other demonstrations. Bring your drop spindle, if you have one!
A roving is a long and narrow bundle of fiber. It is usually used to spin yarn. A roving can be created by carding the fiber, and it is then drawn into long strips. Since it is carded, the fibers are not parallel, though drawing it in to strips may line the fibers up slightly. Since roving has been created by carding, the fibers are less parallel than top (combed) and are not of uniform length. Carded roving looks fluffier than combed top, which looks smooth and has a high luster. The fibers in combed top tend to be of a fairly uniform length due to the method of preparation.
We sell both carded and combed fiber.
